The Geer Family

Thanksgiving was fun and eventful!  We spent Thanksgiving day at my parents and then went to Ed's parents for dinner.  TJ helped mom cook sweet potato casserole and helped her cut the grass, he helped Bob & Ed fry the turkey, fished in the pond and played me in Battleship.   The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed all of the good food.  Friday was my 10 year high school reunion.  We had a great time at the Southern Rail in Carrboro and saw so many people.  It was good to catch up.  We didn't get home until 1am!  I know what y'all are thinking: "Party Animals!"  We were up early Saturday morning and headed over to Raleigh to Carter-Finley Stadium to watch the Heels lose to the Wolfpack, a subject I won't touch on.  Afterwards, we had dinner with Ed's good friend Spencer and his adorable son JJ, who were home from Florida for the holiday.  It was great to catch up with them.  Yesterday, me & TJ put up the Christmas tree and hung the stockings...

We have another doctor's appointment this afternoon and then next Monday is the big day!  We are so excited to find out what we are having!

TJ's last football game for the season was on Saturday.  Unfortunately they lost again but it was probably TJ's best game all season.  He made a big solo tackle in the 3rd quarter that stopped the other teams best player from possibly getting in to the end zone.  He then assisted on another tackle a few plays later.  He was very excited and kept looking up at us in the stands.  It was fun.  His awards banquet was yesterday and all the kids got trophies.  Here are some pics...

Sunday was the first of what I believe to be many baby showers I will be attending over the next several months.  Leigh Anne now has about 7 weeks to go until Weston arrives.  She seems very excited and Grandma Betty & Grandma Diane just can't wait.  She has decided on a giraffe theme for the nursery so me, Laura, Patrice, Maria & mom made her a giraffe/safari themed diaper cake.  We had a great time building it on Friday night and Mom & Bob cooked us dinner while Gabby entertained.  Here are some pictures from the decorating and the shower...

Friday started the season of nonstop driving between Chapel Hill and Greensboro, for Ed anyway since I do it everyday!  We went to see the basketball team kickoff the 2009-2010 season with an exhibition against Belmont Abbey on Friday night.  Our plan was to stay in Chapel Hill on Friday night since the Duke game was at 3:30 on Saturday.  But we found out earlier in the week that TJ had tryouts for one of his basketball teams at 9am on Saturday.  SO...it was back to Greensboro Friday night and up early for basketball tryouts and then back to Chapel Hill for the football game.  After stopping by Ed's parents after the football game to wish Grandpa Major a happy 69th birthday, we finally got home at about midight.  I am usually pretty good about staying awake with Ed while he's driving but not this time....I was exhausted!  I think I slept almost all day Sunday while the boys took a bike ride up to TJ's school and back.

TJ had basketball tryouts for the 9-10 year old league at the YMCA Saturday morning.  Yes, he's only 7, but he has far surpassed the the skills of the 7 and 8 year old leagues so we decided to put him in the 9-10 competitive league to help him improve.  He needs a challenge.  He also has tryouts on Tuesday for the 8 & Under AAU NC Gaters team.  This is a travelling team that competes nationally in tournaments.  He also has football practice all week and then a bowl game on Saturday morning.  Ed's brother, niece and nephew are coming in from Knoxville for the Miami game so they will also get to see TJ play in his football game so he is really excited about that.  After this week, there is one more week of football and then the last bowl game (they play in two bowl games, no matter what their record is, whew....) and then on to basketball full time!  He's only 7 and already has us carting him all over....

I started Yoga classes a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed it!  I can tell it will be really beneficial during the entire pregnancy process with breathing and stretching techniques.  Although my belly is definitely getting bigger and I can't lay on my stomach, I can still do most of the moves.  After Yoga class, Ed meets me and we get in about an hour of cardio.  I am only supposed to gain around 15-20 pounds total during this pregnancy and that is stressing me out.  That really isn't that much when you are carrying around another person!

Busy week and weekend ahead....not only do we have football all day Saturday but Leigh Anne's baby shower is this Sunday and I'm excited to see her.  It's great being pregnant at the same time as your best friend.  According to her

We had our 13 week appointment on Friday and everything looks great so far!  Megan was the nurse practitioner and she was great!  She has one of those very calm personalities that just makes you really feel at ease.  It turns out that she is from Ohio and ended up in Greensboro because her husband is a golf pro at a private club here.  So we had a lot to talk about.  We gave our entire health history and that of my parents and grandparents.  Then it was time for the exam.  After an unsuccessful attempt to hear the heartbeat through the doppler machine, Megan rolled in the untrasound machine, which was a bonus because we weren't scheduled to see the baby again so soon.  The heartbeat was great and you can see the little legs all stretched out. Definately a big change from the first ultrasound photos.  I had my annual girlie exam and then got the H1N1 vaccine and some blood drawn.  Then we got a whole bag of goodies including all of the classes that we need to sign up for at the hospital (yes, mom...there is one for breathing and pain tolerance).  The baby will be delivered at The Women's Hospital of Greensboro which is part of the Moses Cone Health System.

Saturday was Halloween and we took TJ trick-or-treating in the neighborhood where his school is.  He had a great time with some of his classmates and got a lot of candy.  I'm not sure who has enjoyed the candy more...him or me.  He's great and shares it all with me! :)  After trick-or-treating we ventured to our usual Saturday night spot: Cold Stone for some ice cream.  I haven't really had too many specific cravings yet but I am trying new things.  I ALWAYS get the mint ice cream but this time I opted for the cookies 'n cream.

I wore my first pair of maternity pants to work today.  Not sure I like to admit that but I must say they are very comfortable.  Right now, I just don't want anything touching my belly.  It is expanding so quickly (at least it seems that way) that I just want it to breathe!!!  Our next appointment with the doctor is on November 30th and then December 7th is the big date: we will find out the sex.  What a great birthday gift this will be, the 7th is Ed's birthday and mine is the 6th.  Right now, my gut is telling me it's a boy...we'll see!

We were excited the Heels were finally able to win a big one on national tv and we're headed to see the basketball exhibition on Friday night vs. Belmont Abbey and then Duke on Saturday.  That should actually be a great game this year.
